Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has approved a new wave of sanctions targeting 121 Russian military commanders responsible for orchestrating missile strikes on Ukraine, alongside nine religious figures accused of spreading pro-war propaganda.
The sanctions single out commanders across multiple branches of the Russian military who directly ordered or executed bombardments:
Commanders responsible for firing over 4,100 air-launched cruise and aeroballistic missiles since the conflict began.
Officials who oversaw the launch of more than 1,500 Kalibr missiles from submarines and surface ships. These attacks targeted critical energy infrastructure in regions like Kyiv, Lviv, and Odesa.
Commanders involved in firing over 1,100 Iskander-M ballistic and ground-launched cruise missiles.
Vladyslav Vlasiuk, a presidential adviser on sanctions policy, highlighted that this is one of the first times Ukrainian special services have been able to definitively pinpoint the exact individuals giving the orders and executing the missile launches.
A separate sanctions package specifically targets nine representatives affiliated with the Russian Orthodox Church. They were blacklisted for publicly justifying Russia’s military aggression and distributing state propaganda.
