US Hits Iran’s Oil Transport Network with New Sanctions

On Wednesday, the U.S. Treasury Department announced a fresh wave of sanctions aimed at crippling Iran’s oil transportation infrastructure. The new measures target a total of more than two dozen individuals, businesses, and ships.

The primary focus of these sanctions is a shipping network operated by Iranian oil tycoon Mohammad Hossein Shamkhani. He is the son of the late Ali Shamkhani—a major architect of Iran’s security and nuclear strategies who was killed during the joint U.S.-Israeli strikes on Tehran on February 28.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent emphasized the administration’s hardline approach, stating that the department is deploying “Economic Fury” to go after regime elites like the Shamkhani family, who he accused of enriching themselves at the expense of the Iranian public.

In addition to the Shamkhani network, the Treasury blacklisted Seyed Naiemaei Badroddin Moosavi, an Iranian national accused of funding Hezbollah. The sanctions also hit three companies tied to a money-laundering operation that exchanged Iranian oil for Venezuelan gold.
