US Imposes Sanctions on Mexico-Based Criminal Syndicate

The US State Department has announced a new wave of sanctions targeting the Cartel del Noreste, a Mexican criminal organization operating along the US-Mexico border. The measures specifically target high-ranking executives and casinos associated with the cartel.

According to the department’s statement, the Cartel del Noreste is actively involved in “money laundering, drug trafficking, and human smuggling” across the border region. Consequently, several top-level figures and cartel-linked casinos have been officially added to the sanctions list.

The State Department also recalled the cartel’s March 2022 attack on the US Consulate in Nuevo Laredo, Mexico. The statement emphasized that the organization remains a direct threat to US personnel and actively destabilizes communities on both sides of the border.

These newly imposed sanctions are designed to cripple the cartel’s financial and logistical networks. Ultimately, the goal is to curb drug trafficking and ensure the safety of border communities.

Furthermore, the department highlighted that this move reflects the Donald Trump administration’s unwavering commitment to utilizing all available resources to neutralize “narco-terrorist groups” that pose a threat to the United States and its allies.
