Canada has officially imposed sanctions on Streit Group, an armored vehicle manufacturer based in the UAE.

Streit Group is run by Guerman Goutorov, a Canadian-Russian businessman. The company is accused of supplying its manufactured armored vehicles directly to Russia’s National Guard (Rosgvardia).

Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand stated that the sanctions are designed to cut off the flow of military technology and equipment that is fueling Russia’s ongoing war against Ukraine.

By targeting Streit Group’s supply chain, Canada is joining Ukraine, the EU, and Switzerland, which had already placed sanctions on the company in previous years. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha praised the move, noting that coordinated sanctions are the most effective.

This move closely follows the EU’s 21st sanctions package against Russia. That package included new restrictions on Russian financial institutions, port bans for “Shadow Fleet” oil tankers, and crackdowns on non-EU crypto platforms and Russian military-industrial personnel.
