EU’s largest sanction against Russia

The European Union has announced the addition of 1,600 companies and individuals involved in Russia’s defense industry infrastructure to its sanctions list.

In response to the US lifting sanctions on Russian diesel fuel, the EU implemented its most comprehensive sanctions package in history, targeting 1,600 individuals and companies within Russia’s defense infrastructure.

The sweeping 930-page list specifically targets Russia’s shipbuilding industry, encompassing 23 major shipyards, repair facilities, design bureaus, and even small component manufacturers.

The sanctions hit the United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC) and its major subsidiaries—including Admiralty Shipyards and nuclear submarine producer Sevmash—as well as senior executives at these facilities.

EU High Representative Kaja Kallas stated that this uncompromising package is necessary to maximize pressure on Russia and counter its escalating attacks on civilians.
