On May 11, 2026, the UK government launched one of its most aggressive sanctions packages to date, targeting 85 individuals and entities linked to Russia’s most “heinous” activities. The measures focus on two main fronts: the systematic abduction of Ukrainian children and the Kremlin’s global information warfare.
A significant portion of the sanctions (29 targets) focuses on the forced deportation and indoctrination of Ukrainian children. The UK is calling out a deliberate attempt to erase Ukrainian identity.
The “Warrior Centre”: Sanctioned for providing military training and pro-Kremlin ideology to abducted youth.
Yulia Velichko: The so-called Minister for Youth Policy in Luhansk was targeted for issuing Russian passports to children and organizing indoctrination programs.
Financial Support: Alongside the sanctions, the UK is providing £1.2 million in new funding to help locate, verify, and return these children to their families.
The UK is also cracking down on “information warfare” by targeting 56 entities and individuals responsible for spreading lies and meddling in foreign democracy.
The Social Design Agency (SDA): 49 employees—including writers and translators—were sanctioned. They are accused of running “interference operations” designed to weaken global support for Ukraine.
Armenian Election Interference: The UK exposed SDA plans to establish pro-Russia organizations in Armenia to shift political power toward the Kremlin.
ANO Dialog: This entity was revealed to be working directly with Russian intelligence to conduct “malign influence campaigns” both in Ukraine and abroad.
Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper made it clear that the UK’s support for Ukraine remains “ironclad.” By exposing these tactics, the UK aims to disrupt the Kremlin’s ability to sow discord.
By the Numbers: This latest move brings the total number of UK-sanctioned Russian targets to over 3,300, ranging from military supply chains to propaganda networks.
While Russia continues to try and undermine democratic processes, the UK and its allies are signaling that they are watching every move—from the digital battlefield to the illegal movement of people.
